Maya Taylor is an internationally recognized choreographer and performer based in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is known for her work as the dance coordinator for Solange Knowles, working on her live tour, her December 2016 performance forThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, as well as her videos for Don't Touch My Hair and Cranes in the Sky. Maya's choreography can also be seen throughout Season 1 of the new TNT drama, CLAWS.  

Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Maya studied classical ballet for many years before diving into contemporary and classical modern. She studied at Ballet West Conservatory, The Ailey School, Jacob’s Pillow and is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA program. She has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Maguy Marin, Pina Bausch, Angelin Preljocaj, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Brice Mousset and many others. Shortly after receiving her degree Taylor joined Elisa Monte Dance and for several years performed throughout the United States and Europe. During her time with the company, The New York Times called the dancers of Elisa Monte “a performing tour de force.”

Maya began to develop her choreographic language in 2010. She founded Maya Taylor Dance, a project based contemporary dance ensemble, to produce highly athletic, visually powerful, and deeply emotional works. Maya has been commissioned to teach and create new works from the Midwest to the UK. She has held residencies at both Creighton University and with University of Nebraska at Omaha’s The Moving Company. In 2012, her work La Dispute was performed at Regional Dance America's National Festival in Montreal. She was chosen to choreograph a large-scale piece for Omaha Performing Arts’ The Rite Returns festival in February 2013 and her solo One Thousand and One was chosen as DANCE Magazine's Video of the Month in their August 2013 issue. In April 2015, Maya premiered her solo, Under a Glass Bell, at the launch of Let's Dance International Frontiers in Leicester, England. From 2014-2017 Maya was the rehearsal director and resident choreographer for the Marigny Opera Ballet in New Orleans.

Maya is currently on faculty at Schramel Conservatory of Dance and is also part of the summer faculty at the prestigious Perry Mansfield Performing Arts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She recently premiered her new collaboration with Curtis Thomas, What Have I Given?, at Harvest Dance Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival this past September.
